I’ve been lived in Makassar for 5 years, I’ve seen this situation many times… it’s really sad if you look a little boy asking you to ride their Becak, when I used to catch their becak to get ride I never asking for lower price to them… even only for short distance. for me it’s a little bit spirit for them to see their future when I see their wide smile when I gave the money.

It’s breaking my heart to see this, i came from Makassar and live in Aus for 12 year, i feel so homesick and miss to go on “becak”.

can I get this video? I have a friend, western guy, and have shown this video to him. He is going to have some congress in the next months around the Europe, and he has promised to show this video in his congress in order to get some help to support this program.
So if possible, maybe you can send us some videos about your program for those children.

    Thanks in advance:)

    They are really innocent.

  19. KentClark3 Says:

That sounds good. Nobody should work in a dangerous environment. The Indonesian government needs to spend more money on health and education.

  20. jktham Says:

In Makassar we run a shelter home for these street children. Altough, we could not stop them totally from working in extremely dangerous environment, we managed to reduce their working hours from 9 hours per day to 4. The kids spend the rest of the free time learning life skill and languages at the centre.

  21. KentClark3 Says:

Some children prefer work to school. It depends on the ‘work’ and the ’school’. Some schools in the UK involve violence and bullying.
